2nd LT Edward Joseph Setlock
Today we honor and remember 2nd LT Edward Setlock of the 101st Airborne Division, who was killed in The Battle of the Bulge
On January 9th, 1945, the 101st Airborne Division made a strong attack on a broad front at the northern sector of the Bastogne perimeter.
While the 2nd Battalion of the 501st Parachute Infantry Regiment made a secondary attack towards Recogne, the 2nd and 3rd Battalion of the 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment attacked the Germans on the right side of the sector in the Fazone Woods. 3rd Battalion of the 502nd Parachute Infantry Regiment attacked the left sector of the Fazone Wood. This attack was supported by several other units, including the 609th, the 704th, and 705th Tank Destroyer Battalions, the 81st Airborne Anti-Aircraft Battalion, and the 326th Airborne Engineer Battalion. The aim of the attack was to seize the town of Noville.
2nd LT Edward Joseph Setlock of How Company, 3rd Battalion, 502nd PIR was killed in action during the attack in the Fazone Woods on January 9th.

Born on March 17, 1919, in Aultman, Pennsylvania, Joseph died at the age of 25. He left behind his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Stephen Setlock, two brothers, two half-brothers, and four sisters.
Lieutenant Setlock was first buried at the Temporary American Military Cemetery Grand Failly, France, at Plot G, Row 9, Grave 208. He now rests eternally in Saint Tobias Cemetery, Brockway, Jefferson County, Pennsylvania. He was posthumously awarded a Purple Heart Medal.

The battle was fought during cold,wet and horrible conditions! Every second death was behind every corner!
Many lost their lives in that freezing cold area called the Bulge!
2nd Lt. Edward Joseph Setlock gave his life for us so that we can cherish Freedom!
